Sensory Bin Fun

I actually "borrowed' this idea from a good friend (why reinvent the wheel right?)  Her son and my daughter have something in common, they love playing with diggers!  She made up a sensory bin using rice but my clean freak personality wasn't ready to dive into the mess that rice creates so I used dried chick peas.  Now that I've done it I realize it would be totally fun with rice, popcorn, kidney beans, oatmeal, shredded paper.  Any material really.  Just have fun and experiment with different sizes and textures.  We put the diggers into the peas, but next week I'm going to change it to measuring cups.  You could also do an "eye-spy" activity and hide objects inside and have your little one find them.  The possibilities really are endless!

Digger Fun!  This kept her busy for a long time.  It was great I was able to clean up the kitchen and make lunch!

She drove around, scooped and poured the peas into the trucks.

  1. I really love this idea. I think both my kids would be entertained for a good hour with something like this - where did you buy the little diggers? They are adorable.

  3. I've used dry macaroni, and Mace loves it! Oddly enough we've never used diggers in it (gotta put that on the "must do" list), but he enjoys searching for puzzle pieces and then completing the puzzles.
